Sonuva part XV

It has indeed been a while since I've updated Sonuva, I've been working a contracting gig that has me waking up at 5 in the morning... so I've been going to bed early... like 10 o' clock early... which for anybody that knows me, knows that's like going to bed while the sun's still up... And I do my best work between the hours of 10pm and 4am.

But, nonetheless, I have begun work on a new character. I know I have a roster planned out, but I couldn't help but work on a new character. And while I'm waiting for my good friend "The Edge" (not to be mistaken with "The Keith") to work on some backgrounds for me, there's not much else I can do except create, create, create... I'm not ready to fully unveil this new creation in full animated glory, but here's a promotional image (as though I have a marketing plan on this) to give you an idea...

Heh, kinda' looks like me... but it's not me, I'm not that self-centered... although "Nark" is a character from a comic that I worked on who is a superhero version of me... so maybe I really am self-centered... I'm over it, so get over it. The character's name is "Leo"... now if anybody has grown up with me, they'll know who that eludes to... The Edge'll understand.

Aside from Leo, there's 2-3 more characters to be animated and one extra character who will be a basic color/costume swap of a preexisting fighter. I'm hoping to get some more work done this weekend for a Sunday night update, maybe a Saturday one even...

Sonuva part XIV

Finished up Jack's animations... I didn't have time to put together a polished demonstration of them like I normally do... I'm getting lazy as this project progresses. So yeah, I have to apologize for how poorly put together the following animations are, but they should give the basic gist of his move set. I haven't fine tuned his second special move (which you saw a sketch of in the last post, the one where he's throwing his bat), but it's finished for the most part, I'm just debating on whether to keep it or not... Below are two links, one to view Jack's standard moves and special moves, the other to view his finisher... which I have to warn you is excessively violent... so if you're extremely conservative, don't watch it. mmkay?

Here's the link to Jack's move set:

And here's the link to his finisher:

I think his finisher could use some touch-ups still, but for time's sake, I think it functions just fine... I have about 2 - 3 more characters to animate and I don't want to waste too much time on the minor details, I'll go back and dot the i's and cross the t's when all of the characters are done. My good friend, The Keith, has been concepting some pretty cool finishers which I'm anxious to apply to the next batch of fighters. Also, my friend Edgell has been putting together some really nice looking stages for the game. It's all coming together really nicely thanks to their help...

Okay, it's getting late/early... gotta' catch them there Z's...

Sonuva part XIII

I began work on the character "Jack" today (yeah, I'm seriously going to have to work on some of these names), I've been holding off on doing this fighter's animations mainly because I started to find him a little boring in nature... sort of a Liu Kang to the series. His soul purpose is to incorporate an everyman to the series (as though somebody really needs to relate to this game). The more I work on him, the more he's growing on me... not to mention he's incredibly easy to animate! ... which I am all about.

You can view his animations thus far by clicking the following link... are these blog posts beginning to get repetitive?

http://www.6amcomics.com/sonuva/jack/

The next steps for Jack are a couple of air attacks, two special moves and a finisher... and blocks... crap, I guess I have a lot to do still... To spare this blog redundancy with the others, I've provided some of the concept art I sketched out last year for hunter's moves... I'm not displaying his finisher because it was toned down tremendously because a few certain unnamed individuals didn't want this game to be violent at all. Hence, the finishers were kind of a useless concept, yet remained nonetheless.

These sketches were drawn in the style that I had originally intended the game to be illustrated in... since beginning the animation work, I'm really happy I didn't go with this style... not unique enough... but I've been wrong before...

While I was working on his animations, I glanced over at what I had been naming his individual movie clips in Flash... I chuckled...

Don't act like that doesn't give you a whole new perspective on his character... I should just name him that...

Sonuva part XII

After a weekend off from any animation work, I hit the drawing boards again today and revisited the finisher for Sadis-Jyn that I gave up on last week. With a little more motivation it came out quite nicely... Which brings me to a dilemma. Keith (the original designer for the character) came up with a pretty sweet finisher for the guy. So I'm trying to determine which one will work best for him... I've animated both finishers. Worse comes to worst I just give him two finishers... but then I'd feel obligated to make 2 for the others... eh...

You can view the two finishers here and give me your opinion... assuming you're into this game at all. The first goes more in line with the idea of Sadis-Jyn being a very clean killer, leaving no visible wounds and attacking the brain through the nose with some kind of spike... the second is more brutal in nature... it'd be better to just watch it rather than have me explain it...

Violent content, don't watch if you don't like that, blah blah...

There you have em'... Tomorrow I'm hoping to get started on a new character... I won't be working quite as "round-the-clock" as I have been, the last few weeks of doing this have left me a little sleep depraved.

Up your nose with a rubber... spike.

Sonuva part XI

Continued working on Sadis-Jyn's animations today. There's definitely some serious progress goin' on, I just have a few more moves to refine and he should be all set. I spent about 2 to 3 hours working on his finisher tonight... sadly, however, it wasn't turning out that great... and sometimes you have to stop trying to make an idea work and start from scratch... Which is sad, I could have gone to bed HOURS ago... oh well. I won't be able to do much with him until Sunday night... after the Superbowl... Here's hoping to have him finished soon so I can get cracking on some of the other characters. I may spend some time this weekend storyboarding them more...

In the mean time, the link below will show you his animations up to date...

And no questionable content this time, so kids, feel free to indulge in the Sonuva goodness!

Sonuva part X

Not a ton finished in the way of animation today... Sadis-Jyn is coming along nicely though; I've finished 2 of his attacks... I only had about 2-3 hours to work on him tonight, so given that amount of time, it's progress... And progress is good. I should have his animations finished before Friday... hopefully...

In the meantime, here's a fun little picture for the game depicting all the characters I've designed to date...

Sonuva part IX

So I don't have anything new in the way of animation today, but I do have a character design... if that's enough to keep your interest, then awesome!

About a week ago, I asked my good friend, Keith, to come up with some character concepts for Sonuva... Dude is a twisted genius. He's come up with 5 characters thus far using collages and all are awesome. One character in particular he named "Sadis Jyn"... The following is his description as well as the image he created...

"Sadis-jyn: White suit, tie, and gloves black shirt, and shoes. He's wearing a Kendo sparring mask which I wanted to be all white but it wasn't easy to do that so I left it black. You decide. I was fascinated with the feudal assassination technique where killers stuck long spools up peoples nose and into their brain to kill people and it wouldn't leave any visible wound. Thats his attack. Very fast, many strikes into multiple orifices and the victim falls down dead or something. But he's slick so whatever weapons you wanna give him, scalpels, hooks, giant spools whatever. He's tidy too. He's uses anti-bacterial wipes after each kill to fight the spread of germs beacuse nobody wants to be sick."

I am so happy I asked him to do this... So this is the character I decided to start animating right away (still planning on using the others too)... He doesn't look quite like the above image... but that's because I have to translate a collage into an illustration... a slightly less realistic illustration at that.

If you glance your pretty lil' eyes to the right of this paragraph, you can see what I came up with. In the above paragraph, Keith mentioned I could give this guy whatever weapon I wanted... I'm going to stick with the long spools. I think some interesting fighting moves can come from this... the tricky part will be making his finisher worthwhile... Not that I'm a sicko or anything, but if you've been keeping up with any of the previous animations, it's safe to say there's a certain... standard... to what they entail... i.e. there's typically some "visible wounds"... but I may have to get a little creative on this one... No Liu Kang cop-outs like Mortal Kombat 1... I have some cool ideas for this guy though, so I'm not worried...

Anyway, I should have some more stuff tomorrow night. All this animation work is tiring! Thanks again, The Keith!

Sonuva part VIII

I've been pretty hard at work finishing up the animations for Canaan... I still have a lot of fine tuning and a few kinks to work out on him, but overall, I'm fairly pleased with the progress... those who fall victim to his finisher will require some more custom animations... which is cool, but the roster is growing, so things should begin to get interesting... But I suppose I have all the time in the world... and that may or may not be a good thing...

In addition to the updated Canaan character, when you watch the animation, you'll see a few new animations for Azriel, these were finished a while ago, but I didn't get a chance to incorporate them into the last demo, so I figured they'd do just fine here. The following link probably a little more graphic than the others, so if you're not a fan of heavy violence, than I suggest you not watch this animation:

http://www.6amcomics.com/sonuva/canaan/canaanUpdate/

Yes. That is a jaw.

Once Canaan is finished, I'm planning on animating some character ideas which some of my friends have been working on for me... I have to narrow them down a little, but I think I have a general idea of who's next.

Aight, I need some sleep,

Sonuva part VII

I was planning on working on one of the already designed characters, Nephilim or Jack, but decided to create a new character altogether... Honestly, I'm not terribly enthused to work on said fighters at the moment... I'm sure I will be, but Azriel was so interesting and unique that I just had to try somebody new.

So I pulled another character from the "Reaper" line-up... a Canaanite... now named Canaan. Original name, I know... but the names are really the least of my concerns at the moment, I'll work out those kinks at a later time... like when I'm done MAKING the game. Because I've been spending a majority of my time planning out his concept and moves, I've only finished a handful of animations for him. A few attacks and a stance, really. I'm pleased with how he's coming out though.

Although the original idea behind Canaanites (my Canaanites, not the biblical ones... although that's where the concept was conceived from... details, shmetails...) was that they carried AK-47s... this one uses a glowing chain. His throw is probably one of the more drawn out ones I'm planning on animating... and it too is a homage to Mortal Kombat. Only instead of disabling the opponent, it just leads into a big ol' punch in the face...

You can view his animations below... I suppose I should make another warning about violence... there is some... nothing gruesome though, just some blood bursts when Azriel gets punched and chained... I'd say PG-13... Viewer discretion is advised.

http://www.6amcomics.com/sonuva/canaan

Anyway, it's a working progress, I should have some more work finished on him tomorrow... It's presently 5 in the morning and I'm definitely burning the candle at both ends... sleeeeep...
