4

Decided to do some story boarding tonight, quick sketches for a graphic novel I hope to make someday. I've posted this character in the past (one, two), but anyway, it's called "4".

 Thoughts?

Some Sketches...

I was going through some old piles of paper, doodles and sketchbooks and found a few gems that I had all but forgotten about... The first is this pile of frogs. I drew it for someone who liked frogs. Y'know, there's really not a whole lot to say about it, I just drew some dang frogs. I think I found the photo it's based on somewhere on google images...
This next one was something I whipped up for a girl who sang... music... Obviously hasn't gotten anywhere with it otherwise I'd just be linking to her on wikipedia, in the meantime we'll just call her music girl... And this was her logo... That was never officially a logo... Basic Black & White...
Aaaaand up next! This is a guitar which has apparently been completely ignited by the holy spirit. It looks all 90's glow-in-the-dark... ish. There's no logic behind that. I just like making things glow. Next stop, my teeth!

Last but not least... Though technically it is least, because I spent the least amount of time preparing this one for the web. We have a tree that I titled "Branches in the Shadows"... It's pretty much a ghost tree... But in black & white. I think it was a season of negative space for me.
Thus concludes my random sketches.

Yes, No, Maybe so...

Quick sketch based off a drawing I made back in college... It basically sums up my life of prayer for many years in regards to the unknown.

Kindergarten Robo Cop

Doodled something similar to this back in 2002 and ran it in the ol' school paper... Sadly I wasn't the best artist in the world, so it was long overdue for a makeover... which is what this little ditty is.

Can't say there was any real reasoning behind the drawing... Though if you watch Robocop 2, you might see a similarity in the concept. Basically the government felt Robocop was too violent, so they reprogrammed him to be more kid-friendly... So I just took that a step further and put him in a school... threatening a problem child.

You know... his methods remind me of being in Sunday School... Church was much more strict in the 80's...

Thank you for your cooperation,

The Baptizer 3000

I came across an old drawing I did in college for a comic strip I used to run in the school paper called "Sugar-Frosted Sea-Bunions" (I did a post on this a ways back). Now most of those drawings are either lost or simply outdated (i.e. they kind of suck), so every now and then I like to re-create them and make them look a little better.

The concept came from years of church and noticing the evolution of technology within the services… Back in the 80s, it was all about the hymnals… later in the 80's and 90's, transparencies were used to project the words to whatever worship song we were singing… Now in the 2000s we use projectors… Some churches even use giant tv screens… Pretty soon I'm sure we'll be using holograms… or wearing 3D glasses, that seems to be the trend nowadays… A dumb trend at that. Thank you James Cameron for ruining modern day cinema with your awesome movie!

Anyway, this drawing takes it a step further… With the BAPTIZER 3000! It's just the natural progression of things, why should the pastor get his nice suit all wet in a lake… or worse, bleached in a chlorine infested pool! No more expensive trips to the dry cleaners anymore, the Baptizer 3000 takes care of all your Baptizing needs!

Just don't get it wet!

One of those days...

iLive

A lil' somethin' somethin' I doodled whilst at my abode last night… It's a turtle… man… octopus… hybrid… thing. He apparently lives. I figure this thing exists in some weird future where life is no more and this thing emerges from the depths of a swamp somewhere in the amazon… after California collided with that region in the great quake of 4020 AD… That's why a mutated Turtle in a post apocalyptic amazon happens to know English… It has New Yorker genes. I'll bet it makes a mean pizza pie!

I'm also going to assume the turtle isn't giving a declaration of its own existence, rather Steve Jobs actually owns a fraction of life in the distant future and branded it as "iLive".

Steve Jobs. He actually bought the future.

Scholars Lite

Sadly I didn't get around to working on much today... But I am never without content, my little ones... Uncle Marky always comes prepared!

In an older post I spoke about a "Lite" version of the Scholars comic which I worked on for the Six AM Comics Blog. It was basically a one panel comic strip... but really just a quick sketch I would draw as filler while I worked on the real comic. It started as a comic I would run in the school paper at UMass called "Sugar Frosted Sea Bunions"... I decided it'd be easier to just call it "Scholars Lite" so as not to commit to yet another web comic which I would struggle to keep up with... Evidently I struggle with commitment.

What you are about to witness... Is humor at its laziest.

Scholars Lite #1:

I originally drew this for a girl I was into who liked frogs. Apparently I wasn't slimy enough for her... Or she preferred guys with warts... Hmm, y'know, maybe it's better I didn't date her... I doubt my girlfriend would be very happy...

In any case, this picture speaks for itself. A frog. Ordering Riblets. Because frogs can only say "Ribbit"... I know the humor's not lost on you, go ahead and laugh... no one's looking... You don't even have to tell them it's funny, you can say you're laughing AT it... But please don't laugh at my work... Laugh with it. I'm very sensitive... Another reason Frog Girl probably didn't like me... That and my third nipple.

...

I don't really have a third nipple.

Scholars Lite #2:

This is a remake of one of the "Sugar Frosted Sea Bunions" comics I made (I'm gonna say back in 2002?)... It was my reaction to the Walmart "Watch for Falling Prices" campaign they had been running with that smiley face that never stops whistling... Whenever I whistle people swear at me... It's very rude. Not the image you want to put allover your company branding... But I guess smiley faces make people happy... Personally, I think of them as internet clowns... and that freaks me out.

I always thought the idea of falling prices was a little dangerous... and it makes me wonder why that smiley face delights in the potential safety risks of his company's employees...

Scholars Lite #3:

I was scolded for portraying such violent imagery in relation to "Curious George"... I guess there's not really a ton to explain here other than how that stupid monkey managed to get away with so much crap... Being a monkey doesn't make crimes against humanity okay! Sure he's soft and cuddly... But did you know monkeys also throw their own fecal matter? You think that's cute? You wanna give Curious George a big ol' monkey hug after he smears himself with his own poo and paints your walls with it? ... How about if he killed your cat? You wanna' buy him ice cream now? Yeah, didn't think so... Man in the Yellow Hat? BAD PARENTING. Nuff' said.

Maybe Jack Johnson shouldn't make so many songs about this monkey... sounds to me like Insane Clown Posse fits his demographic a little nicer.

Scholars Lite #4:

We're always digging up new Dino skeletons, changing names, learning more about their lifestyles, etc... Heck, watch Jurassic Park and you'll begin to wonder just how dumb and hungry they really were... Velociraptors? Not very dumb at all... but very hungry. This leaves me wondering what if they had a few more years of evolution (if you believe in that nonsense) under their belt? Would they cease to be hungry and move on to thirst? Not Vampire thirst, but more of an acquired thirst, one which comes from true sophistication... I'm referring, of course, to that of a fine wine.

"Ah, yes, 200 b.c., excellent year, old chap!"

"Ah, yes, I feel it truly compliments that strangely bitter aftertaste of a Human newborn from the eastern hemisphere of the United Nation of Pangaea..."

Scholars Lite #5:

Yet another remake of an old Sea Bunion classic. I can't lie, I actually stole the concept from one of The Far Side's comic strips... which to this day serves as one of my favorite comics ever... It's really the inspiration behind these lil' funnies... It was basically a donkey and a bunny sitting down in their living room... You'll get the punch line after you see my tribute.

... Get it? Anyone? Eh? ... Tough crowd.

You know... I don't recall anyone in my church being a huge fan of this one... I guess they don't like gardening...

Scholars Lite #6:

I made this one Thanksgiving Day a few years ago... I felt it was appropriate. It was also the biggest stretch I've ever had to make for a joke... It was incredibly last minute. I felt it'd be a little cheesy to make a Turkey joke on Thanksgiving Day... Which made it that much more irresistible. I don't know that anybody really saw the humor in this one... And I won't hold that against you.

...

At least not publicly. Rest assure though, I'll be bitter by myself.

...

The Turkey's wearing goggles! It sounds like gobble! ... Cause a Turkey goes "Gobble, gobble, gobble!" ... Unbelievable you people are!

Scholars Lite #7:

Okay. I'm not gonna' lie... This is my all time favorite of these drawings. I'm not playin', I love it. So if you don't care for it then keep your opinion to yourself, gosh darnit!

I don't really remember the mindset which resulted in this drawing, but I can't imagine it was anything less than a stroke of genius... Or was it a stroke of Guinness? In any case (is it just me or do I say that phrase a lot?), the idea of an old school NES being a pimp makes me chuckle. If you were born in the 90's, then you can just flat out disregard this whole post... Heck, you can disregard this entire blog, because you are not relevant to me nor my generation. That's right, we're those people that say things like "Back in my day..." and commonly refer to your kind as "Whippersnappers"... Oh, and we used to have to walk to school, uphill, both ways... And that was BEFORE the Internets! ... Actually, that was about three generations before us, so now think just how young you are! Go to your room!

Scholars Lite #8:

I think if I were an egg, I would take serious offense to both Easter and the people who celebrate it for being anything other than the Resurrection of Christ... Not because I'm religiously conservative, but because I wouldn't want to be painted, hidden in the dark, and then hunted down like an animal by rambunctious children who are probably just going to drop me and crack my head open anyway... I think they made a movie about that with Ice-T once... Though assuming some stupid little "princess" decided to paint me pink, I'd probably long for the sweet release of death by fall... Maybe I'd feed a starving child in India... Or maybe I'd be thrown in a dumpster and eaten by a squirrel... Either way, I'd have the Easter Bunny's number...

Scholars Lite #9:

I'd just like to set the record straight and say that the subject matter addressed in this image has nothing to do with anything that goes near my mouth/lungs/face. I just like to learn the terms given to illegal plants and make funny jokes about them... You know, ironically, the campus ministry I was involved in when I sketched this concept out in college was a huge fan of this one... Just a harmless observation though...

Seriously though, don't smoke kids. Do what I did in High School, light a toothpick on fire and stick it in your mouth so people driving by you at night time THINK you're one of the cool kids.

I totally wasn't one of the cool kids,

Sonuva part XVIII

Yes... Sketches galore! In the off time, I've been concepting another aspect of the game which I haven't really touched on at this point... The Stages. Some of the more memorable aspects of the classic fighting games involve the scenery, it sets the mood and sometimes adds to the gameplay...

I have my buddy Edgell working on some stages, but whilst I waitith for him..ith... I sketched out some ideas I'd like to use... The first being my own homage to my High School, Pinkerton Academy. This stage is meant to be in the clock tower... but nobody will really know that... I highly doubt there's meat-hooks in the tower, but I'm sure there's chains in there somewhere... right? Eh. I doubt there's anything there except for bats and roaches... and evidently Sonuva warriors. Though, the three windows are below the actual "clock" portion of the tower. The windows, the chains, the meat-hooks, the wooden floors... it all leaves room for such carnage to ensue at the end of a fight...

This next idea is just a recreated version of one of my illustrations from a while back... The ol' DNA tree. Not a ton to say about it other than that I'd like to see what could be done interactively with that ribcage in the background... I'd also like to know what animal that ribcage once belonged to... I hope it's extinct. The Earth needs no more giants. I may want a city in the background... I don't know.

This last concept comes from "Abundant Life"... A Superhero comic I worked on about my college buddies... well, I should say, 'still work on'... but that probably won't happen till' this game is finished. There was an underground lab run by generators powered by 6 soulless men with plugs in their backs... Yeah that probably makes no sense... and that's okay. I always thought it'd be a cool place for a fighting game, and seeing as there's a fighter from the Abundant Life world, it seems appropriate.

That's all I got for now... it's late and I swear I'm getting arthritis from drawing so much over my lifetime... I'm not that old.

My bones!

Sonuva Part XVII

Again, I find myself scannerless... A cold breeze sweeps over the room as the pages in my sketch pad flip rapidly, almost as if to escape their ringed confinement and reveal themselves to an unsuspecting world of creativity... How I long to grant their wish... My only option... The Samsung Impression. I effortlessly snap a shot from the book's milky white pages and proceed to edit the crude photograph with ease from within the phone's menus...

Can you believe it? I don't even get paid to promote that phone, yet here I am, placing it upon a pedestal for the world to embrace.

This is a Sonuva Blog. I shall now speak on Sonuva.

I've been going over the roster of characters and have decided to scrap "Nephilim"... Not because I don't like him, he's one of my favorites, but I'm finding him to be incredibly difficult to animate. He's basically wearing a body suit... which makes the division of limbs look off when he moves... You know, it's hard to explain, but take my word for it... he won't look right. Not yet at least...

But I've been concepting a replacement for him... I don't have a name for this guy yet, but here goes...

I was telling "The Keith" about my intentions to scrap Nephilim and he was a little disappointed given the fact there wouldn't be any noticeably large characters... a la "Goro" or "Zangiff". So I figured I should probably make a large character... mainly to serve as a sub-boss before you go toe to toe with Sonuva herself... I'll concept some more ideas, but I'm diggin' on this guy quite a bit... He's actually a recreated version of a villain I made up when I was little called "General Fireblood"... Whatever, I was 10, I could get away with cheesy names like that. He was basically a skull with head acne and a huge physique... needless to say, he's not an zit covered skeleton anymore. Though that's pretty awesome...

I'll keep updating on his development, in the meantime there's a few other characters whom both "The Keith" and "The Edge" (not to be mistaken with the U2 guitarist) have been concepting for me which I need to flesh out still... so much to do! On top of that, I have to complete "Leo"... I'm a busy boy.

Phone Scans!

The one real downside to having a job (aside from the potential suck-factor of that job) is that you're working during the peak hours of creativity... which I believe (for the sober man at least) fall between the hours of noon and 5. Because I am working a contract gig which has me up at 5 and in bed by 10, the amount of awesomeness I'm capable of providing all you Marianelites (spell check is having a field day with that one) is incredibly limited.

I also have no access to a scanner at this job, so even if I make a sketch worth showing, it becomes a challenge to show anybody till I get home from work... and by then I don't care about my doodles. So I made a few sketches and I'm anxious to show them... my last resort? The infamous Camera Phone!! Two exclamation points so you know I mean business! <-- only one exclamation point there though.

I'm amazed at the amount of photo-editing capabilities phones have nowadays. I was able to sharpen, raise the contrast and crop this sketch in a matter of minutes... Still looks like crap cause it was taken with a camera phone, but I am obligated by unwritten law to give credit where it is due... and this phone has earned it (Samsung Impression in case you're wondering). Oh, and I drew Robocop... because I like Robocop... He's a robot... and he's a cop. He also shoots bad people and fights other robots. I'd like to see the Derry Police Department pull that last part off. Not to say they won't be ready when the robots revolt... I imagine we'll have lasers by then. And we can always use magnets if we need to... I'm pretty sure those fry circuits... they certainly did a number to those old Crapintosh computers they made us use in middle school to learn how to type... and that makes me confident, because I'm almost positive that the evil robots will be Mac Products... the Windows brand will catch colds to easily... computer colds. Like Independence Day... Jeff Goldblum will still be working for Mac... so I'm sure the MacBots will put his Alien Computer Virus skills to the test... He's dead though when they realize he's an actor.

Speaking of Aliens! What if they invaded Earth and realized everyone was a Vampire?? That would be the most epic battle of all time... why hasn't anybody done a movie about this?! Because I'd sue them for stealing my idea, that's why. Though I think the Aliens would already have some kind of UV Ray-gun to take down Dracula and his minions... but they wouldn't be invading Earth with that kind of technology, they'd have to fly back to their own planet, get the UV Ray-guns, fly BACK to Earth, which will most likely take a very long time, because I'm sure that the Vampires will have disabled their hyperdrive system during the last invasion. So when they get to Earth, the Vampires may have already evolved and no longer be allergic to the sun... Or, maybe they will have gained this ability by drinking Alien blood... Or they'll just wear Hazmat Suits when they do battle against the aliens... either way, the UV Rays will do no good and the Aliens will have to regroup on homebase AGAIN... and before you know it, there will just be this weird Roadrunner/Coyote thing going on and it'll just be goofy. I'd say Vampires win this one... unless the Aliens just decide to blow up Earth... but even then, Vampires are undead... Maybe they could live on Mars... then they could fight the DOOM demons living there... and that would be a much more balanced fight... but I'm sure it's been done before... I get no royalties on that franchise... and by then it'd be like, the 5th sequel in, and those are almost always Direct-to-DVD, and I just don't want any part of that... Nobody wants to see Jean-Claude Van Damme play a Vampire... Or do they?

I GONNA SUCKA YOU BLOOD!

Sonuva part XIII

I began work on the character "Jack" today (yeah, I'm seriously going to have to work on some of these names), I've been holding off on doing this fighter's animations mainly because I started to find him a little boring in nature... sort of a Liu Kang to the series. His soul purpose is to incorporate an everyman to the series (as though somebody really needs to relate to this game). The more I work on him, the more he's growing on me... not to mention he's incredibly easy to animate! ... which I am all about.

You can view his animations thus far by clicking the following link... are these blog posts beginning to get repetitive?

http://www.6amcomics.com/sonuva/jack/

The next steps for Jack are a couple of air attacks, two special moves and a finisher... and blocks... crap, I guess I have a lot to do still... To spare this blog redundancy with the others, I've provided some of the concept art I sketched out last year for hunter's moves... I'm not displaying his finisher because it was toned down tremendously because a few certain unnamed individuals didn't want this game to be violent at all. Hence, the finishers were kind of a useless concept, yet remained nonetheless.

These sketches were drawn in the style that I had originally intended the game to be illustrated in... since beginning the animation work, I'm really happy I didn't go with this style... not unique enough... but I've been wrong before...

While I was working on his animations, I glanced over at what I had been naming his individual movie clips in Flash... I chuckled...

Don't act like that doesn't give you a whole new perspective on his character... I should just name him that...

Angelic Interpretation

So it's clearly been a while since I've updated this blog... I'm over it.

In any case, I've got a couple of pictures which are ready for posting... unfortunately I can't post them until after the holidays, they're gifts for my brother, and I'd rather not have him visit my site and see his gift early... that would be most disappointing... I hope no potential jobs are lying in the balance, waiting to be dazzled by new blog content only to be let down by my unrelenting desire to maintain the element of surprise on Christmas day, hence erasing me from the pending list of employment... and for what... Christmas Joy?!

Doubtful.

But anyway, I was rummaging through some old art work of mine and came across a pretty interesting piece I made for a class in college... yes, I occasionally made an effort in school... though rarely was this the case. Technically, this was a sketch for a far more impressive final product... unfortunately, I've been unable to locate the finished work... which isn't a big deal, I never ended up using this sketch because it didn't quite follow the same visual style as the other pieces. But it's pretty awesome on its own, I think... it brings me back to a far more creative time.

In its nature and style, this is one of the more darker pieces which I've worked on in the past. I don't remember exactly what the criteria for this project was, but the theme I chose was "Angels"... Clearly this is not a traditional angelic interpretation. I chose to go along the thought process that angels are nothing like we imagine them to be... i.e. white men in robes with big fluffy wings and glowing halos of light around their heads. I'm sure someone in biblical times may have been visited by the aforementioned angelic embodiment, but I imagine that in their true form, the one which cannot be seen with mortal eyes, is something far more abstract and intimidating.

If you look closely at the drawing, you'll probably notice there's an abundance of eyes formed within the patterns and shapes (you have to look for them). My idea was that angels are an observant presence, always watching from within the spiritual realm, beyond our own natural vision. A city is vaguely defined in the background of the drawing, implying that this angelic being is watching over the cityscape, protecting it with an almost frightful unseen presence... which is the only way I can remotely begin to explain what I believe the power of God must resemble...

Though I'd like to find the other finished drawings, I think this one was probably the most interesting of the bunch, it's a shame it didn't make the cut. I should go back and finish it sometime...

Angelically,
~ Mark

Reaper Remake

In a previous post I mentioned briefly that I would be redoing my graphic novel, "The Reaper"... I've begun story-boarding the new take on it in the hopes that I can finally create it in the fashion of my original vision... which I know, George Lucas used the term "original vision" A LOT while he was destroying his once loved franchise and smearing it in the face of his once loyal public... I, on the other hand, actually had a very good idea originally... what was ultimately created was a shadow of this. But in any case, I've done a good chunk of work on this to date, but I'll just show off a few things I was playing around with... which may or may not be used in the end...

First of all, new Canaanite Logo... the original logo resembled the Crescent Moon of Islam just a little too much, I'm not about to associate myself with that sort of mockery, this novel was never supposed to have any religious propaganda, but it came off a little anti-Muslim as I was rushing to throw some Canaan imagery together... if anything, it was supposed to be more reminiscent of Soviet Communism... So I'm rectifying that mistake... The image is the profile shot of a Ram's head. It's the most common imagery associated with the Canaanites of the bible that I could find, and generally, there's something sinister about the imagery of a ram's head... they do look a little evil... Ram's and Goats... But at the end of the day, the most sadistic animal, in my opinion, is the Squirrel... I'm serious, don't trust them.

Given this new logo, I decided since the "reaper" in the comic is basically smearing out Canaanite Leaders, the book's logo should represent that a little more... So I used a few ideas from the original look of the titles in the book and mixed it with the concept of wiping out Canaanite heads... This also captures the look and feel of the novel, which was best represented in some of the earlier pages of the the last attempt... and I know you ALL read it... just download the pdf from the last post already!

There's a new character I'm adding to the story named Samson, if you've read any of my other posts or browsed around the sketches in my portfolio, you've probably come across this figure. I originally drew him for a friend's band, but that idea ended up falling through, so I started to doodle him a lot more in the hopes I could use him for something. I know, the name Samson isn't all that original, but the graphic novel is a loose interpretation of the biblical Book of Judges... Samson was a judge, hence, he's going to have a counterpart in the story... I don't think I need to worry about a lawsuit from him, right?

All the character's names come from Judges... including the character "Barak"... no. No, no, and NO. He is in no way a representation of Obama. I created his character in 2006(I'm from NH, I didn't even know who the man was until last year), and the Book of Judges named him WAY before the President's time. So I ask that nobody even allow the thought to enter their head that Barak is in any way, shape or form related to the President. Please. Pretty Please. The fact that he is African American is a coincidence. So don't. Aight? Good.

I've created a little promotional image for the novel... more like a rough sketch with color.

So yeah, just a little update on what I've been working on. I hope to start making some serious progress on this, it's something I've really wanted to do for a long time.

I said don't!

Sonuva

I've had a game idea in mind for quite some time now. I always wanted to make a fighting game, reminiscent of the Mortal Kombat/Street Fighter II era. I always preferred the 2d, sidescroll look of video games, was never a huge fan of 3D unless it was a first person shooter, or something like Gears of War. It just seems to me like games used to be about the art work, not how advanced the graphical engine was.

In any case, this was my idea, the game is called "Sonuva"... it's really not worth looking into, it was a nonsense name... I actually got the idea when I was discussing the idea with a friend of mine and for some reason he was like, sunuva gun... and I for some reason saw the word Sonuva from that... which sounds completely different than "Son of a"... it sounds more like Sun-oov-uh. Whatever, I got side tracked...

Here's a screenshot of how the menu will most likely look:

The basic plot is this:

A powerful ancient mystic, Riluto, grew so powerful that her very essence evolved itself into a separate entity known to many as "Sonuva". It was rumored that Sonuva held the power to manifest the very will of whomever controlled it. Riluto prophesied her death. In a final attempt to control her own destiny, she extended an offer to the world. If anyone dare challenge her power and arise victorious, she will hand over Sonuva, thus granting him (or her)any wish of their own desire. Many battles have ensued, and these challengers remain...

The characters are as follows:

Riluto:The main antagonist of the game, her bio is basically described in the plot.

Jack:Born and raised in a small Irish community in Boston, Jack has given everything to keep his neighborhood thriving and honest. Surrounding areas have been giving into Mob rule due to poverty and unemployment and the Mafia has been slowly intruding on his community, endangering his family. Fearing for his children's safety, Jack enters the competition with nothing but his fists and a hand-made baseball bat. The underdog of the competition, Jack has surprised even Sonuva as he ruthlessly and violently makes his way to the top as one of the final fighters remaining.

Azriel:Sacrificing his life to save the one he loved, Azriel was granted a second chance at life... only not as a man. Taking on the mantel of the Grim Reaper, Azriel was fused with the Angel of Death, who's wings manifest themselves as scythes protruding from Azriel's hands. Feeling Sonuva's offer to be both dangerous and blasphemous, Azriel and his Scythe embark on a mission to see Sonuva destroyed.

Hunter:A government experiment gone very wrong. Hunter, a skilled swordsman, was chosen by the US to enter Sonuva's competition. Being trained heavily in a virtual reality simulation, he experienced a psychotic break and could no longer distinguish between reality and VR.
Thinking himself to still be in training, Hunter has begun a psychotic rampage on his way to Sonuva, killing everything in his path using his government issued "Flame Blades". Mentally separated from reality, it is uncertain whether Hunter will complete his original mission, or if he has ulterior motives for the prize.

Here's my first run at his animations, just a starting point if anything:
http://www.6amcomics.com/fightingGame/

Nark:Member of an elite collegiate-aged group of heroes known to many as "Abundant Life". Nark wields supernatural artistic abilities of manifestation and decimation. After his team mysteriously disappeared during an encounter with a demonic presence, he discovered Sonuva's challenge and entered the competition, determined to win prize and bring back his friends.

Nephilim:Nephilim belongs to a race of beings conceived of an unholy union of Angel and Man, almost 4,000 years ago. Immortal, yet forbidden to ever enter Heaven's gates (nor Hell's for that matter), his kind were outcasted and shunned. Wandering the earth alone, Nephilim seeks to obtain Sonuva's prize and become human... whether his mortality leads him to Hell or to Heaven.

Mille:I actually haven't written a bio for this character yet, mainly because he'll most likely be a bonus character... But he'll probably be from space or something...

The gameplay will be pretty basic, there's not much you can do to improve on 2d fighting games, especially when done in Flash... and you don't have a very large amount of coding experience. But there will be a store between matches which you can use points earned in each fight to purchase new moves, finishers, characters, stages, etc...

Basic fighting moves will be a little limited for the sake of production time, there will be a quick strike, a power strike, a jumping attack and a ducking attack for basic moves. Each player will get a special attack and one additional attack which can be purchased at the store. Also, the method for these special attacks will be a little different from most games, you'll have a limited amount of specials you can use per round, this way we can prevent any cheap "Shoryken" fireball nonsense each fight. It'll add some strategy to the game, though additional special attacks per round may be purchased at the store as well. We'll see how that goes.
There will be a finisher system, i.e. Mortal Kombat Fatalities, haven't given a huge amount of thought to how that will work though, most likely there will be a Teen version and a Mature version which will be accessed differently for the sake of various audiences, we like to keep 6am family friendly.

In the past, I've made some attempts at developing a Flash-based fighting game... it was definitely an experience. The end products were pretty good, but still not perfect. You can view them here (Don't forget to click on the flash piece before trying to use the key commands):

Attempt # 1

Attempt #2

So yeah. That's the whole schpeal on S0nuva. I'll be designing it and programming it in Flash, which is my true love... that and Gwen Stefani... which my girlfriend is not pleased about... it's all lies, baby.

I'll be updating this project through this blog as I work on it. I'll hopefully have some more character animations and whatnot pretty soon. In the meantime, enjoy!

FINISH HIM!
